USE UTMOST CAUTION WHEN YOU ACCEPT MEDICARE
Healthcare has more regulations than any other industry and the government expects you to know the law. The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is aggressively investigating entities involved in the healthcare industry that accept Medicare and Medicaid payments.
Fines & penalties in 2019 totaled nearly $3 billion! A staggering amount.
For the healthcare provider, fines can be substantial, as much as $10,00 per day per employee. In addition fines may be increased to $30,000 per day depending on other services provided by that employee.

Some Examples:

A Rehabilitation Service in New Jersey paid over $261,000 for an employee that it knew or should have known was excluded from participation in Federal healthcare programs.
A Hartford Orthopedic Group paid over $102,000 for the same violation.
A Pennsylvania fire department paid a fine of over $24,000 for employing an Emergency Medical Technician who didn’t have a current certification.

ADDITIONAL PROVIDERS
In addition to all healthcare providers who bill Medicare and/or Medicaid, The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the Department of Health & Human Services aggressively investigates all entities involved in the healthcare industry including:
Hospitals, Home Care Providers, Assisted Living Facilities, Nursing Homes, Urgent Care Facilities, Transportation Services, Physician Group Practices, Medical Offices, and Surgical Centers. This includes their related Employees, Contractors, Sub-Contractors and Volunteer Organizations.
QUESTIONS:
Are you prepared when an OIG investigator arrives at your office?
Are you preparing a monthly audit report?
Do you check employees to be sure they have a current license?
Do you know how to comply with Federal and State Health HHS laws?
Violations
The OIG is required to exclude from participation in all Federal healthcare programs individuals and entities convicted of Medicare or Medicaid fraud, criminal convictions for other health related fraud, theft, financial misconduct and drug related crimes.
(Would you know if any of your employees are in this category?)

Federal laws prohibit medical providers from billing for services ordered by, or contracting with, persons or entities that have been excluded from participating in Medicare, Medicaid or other federal healthcare programs. Equally important, Federal law prohibits employing unlicensed healthcare participants. Are you in compliance with this?
What We Do
We conduct background checks for healthcare job applicants and employees using the same strategies, techniques and skills that I employed every day as a Special Agent of the FBI. We can do this because our special investigative methods provide the most comprehensive employee background checks in the industry. Using our FBI training for thoroughness, we delve deeply into medical records for Federal and State exclusions, sanctions, debarment, licensing and board disciplinary action. We scrutinize State, County and Federal criminal and civil records.

We also conduct a Social Security validation/residence trace and examine Terrorist Watch & Sex Offender lists. That means, a laser-focus to detail, an unrelenting thoroughness, and an obsession for accuracy. And because I learned a long time ago that nothing beats the human touch for meticulousness,, our Medstaff Screening team is committed to taking all the time needed to verify the completeness of each and every database finding. That’s equally true for our employee monitoring service.
True Protection
Responsibility
Unlike other screening companies who use disclaimers and hold harmless agreements to protect themselves, Medstaff Screening accepts full responsibility for the accuracy of the information we report to our clients

We strive to uncover any potential non-compliance violations in order to avoid substantial OIG penalties and fines. Therefore, healthcare providers must conduct thorough background checks of all their employees. This includes doctors, nurses, and office personnel, as well as janitors, contractors, sub-contractors, vendors and volunteers. Let a company run by a former FBI Agent keep you protected and secure.
